Memos for the February 2013 Evaluation Committee Meeting

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

  1. MISC1 - Determining Thermal Resistance of the Air Space in a Stud Cavity Using ASTM C1363. This item has been placed on the Evaluation Committee agenda to seek input from interested parties on whether testing of assemblies containing an enclosed reflective airspace and extruded polystyrene insulation (XPS), and the resulting calculation for the R-value for the airspace, can be applied to assemblies having spray-applied polyurethane insulation installed in the stud cavity. Click here.

  2. AC442 — Proposed New Acceptance Criteria for Spray-applied Sealants. A new criteria is proposed to establish requirements for spray-applied sealants that are used in one or more of the following applications: to maintain the integrity of penetrations in combustible fireblocking, as an alternative to foam plastic insulation applied to sill plates and headers in Type V construction, or to limit air infiltration in penetrations and paths of air leakage in the building envelope. This subject was previously considered by the Evaluation Committee in February 2012. Click here.

  3. AC368 Proposed Revisions to the Acceptance Criteria for Suspended Ceiling Framing Systems. Revisions are proposed to identify and clarify the requirements used in the seismic evaluation of suspended ceiling systems using a comparative testing approach, provide discussion on how the comparative testing approach is currently being used by report holders, and identify the types of recognition that can be permitted using comparative testing. Click here.

  4. AC449 — Proposed New Acceptance Criteria for New Millennium Flex-Joist, R-Series. A new criteria is proposed which sets forth a new design methodology for long span steel joists (LH-series) and deep long span steel joists (DLH-series) joists which differs from the code-referenced Steel Joist Institute (SJI) design specifications. This proposal was introduced under the October 2012 alternative agenda process agenda. Click here.

  5. AC385 Proposed Reinstatement (with revisions) of the Acceptance Criteria for Special-purpose Sprinklers Used with Fixed Glazed Assemblies to Provide a Fire-resistance-rated Wall Assembly. It is proposed that the criteria be reinstated and revised to include recognition under the 2012 and 2009 codes. At its June 2011 meeting, the Evaluation Committee declined to approve revisions that were proposed to the criteria at that time and voted to withdraw the criteria that was in effect at that time. This subject was previously considered by the Evaluation Committee in October 2012 and additional revisions are being proposed to this criteria based on input from the committee and the public at that meeting. 1. AC47 — Proposed Revisions to the Acceptance Criteria for Structural Wood-based Products. Revisions are proposed which would allow an alternative method for deriving the referenced design values for compression perpendicular-to-grain of structural composite lumber in the flat-wise orientation. These proposed revisions are related to proposals that were posted on the October 2012 Evaluation Committee hearing agenda and the December 2012 alternative criteria process agenda. Click here.
  1. AC201 Proposed Revisions to the Acceptance Criteria for Staples. Revisions are proposed to update the criteria to the 2012 codes and delete requirements for the UBC; clarify the types of recognition available under the criteria and the qualification requirements for each type of recognition; clarify various technical issues; and make the criteria consistent with other criteria by including a reason statement and changes to the section on quality control. Click here.

  2. AC116 Proposed Revisions to the Acceptance Criteria for Nails and Spikes. Revisions are proposed to update the criteria to the 2012 codes and delete requirements for the UBC, more clearly state the requirements and generally improve the organization of the criteria, and align the requirements of this criteria with the requirements in similar and related criteria. Similar proposed revisions (exclusive of revisions to Section 5.0) were posted on the June 2012 alternative criteria process agenda. Click here.

  3. AC450 Proposed New Acceptance Criteria for Intumescent Fire-resistant Coatings Field-applied to Prefabricated Wood I-joists. A new criteria is proposed to establish performance testing for evaluating intumescent fire-resistant coatings that are field-applied to prefabricated wood I-joists for compliance with Exception 4 to Section R501.3 of the 2012 IRC. Click here.

  4. AC14 — Proposed Revisions to the Acceptance Criteria for Prefabricated Wood I-joists. Revisions are proposed to revise Appendix A to include requirements regarding the evaluation of corrosion effects, durability and mechanical property degradation effects of factory-applied fire protective paints, coatings or treatments where they are used to achieve equivalent fire performance to the materials described in Exception 4 to Section R501.3 of the 2012 IRC. Click here.

  1. AC232 Proposed Revisions to the Acceptance Criteria for Anchor Channels in Concrete Elements. Revisions are proposed to the criteria to address the influence of concrete compressive strength on the characteristic shear resistance associated with concrete breakout for anchor channels; revise footnote 5 to Table 4.1 in Annex A; add a new equation 8.13; change in the support spacing in Tests series 10, 11, and 13 of Annex A, Table 4.1; new language regarding the seismic tension and shear tests (Test series 12 and 13 of Annex A, Table 4.1); and a number of other substantive and editorial changes. Click here.

  2. AC308 Proposed Revisions to the Acceptance Criteria for Post-installed Adhesive Anchors in Concrete Elements. Revisions are proposed update the criteria to the 2012 codes and completely revise the criteria to reflect the anchor provisions of ACI 318-11 and the new ACI Standard ACI 355.4. Click here.

  3. AC446 Proposed New Acceptance Criteria for Cast-in Specialty Inserts in Concrete. A new criteria is proposed to establish requirements for the recognition of cast-in specialty inserts in concrete that are subject to tension and shear loads. Click here.

  4. AC70 Proposed Revisions to the Acceptance Criteria for Fasteners Power-driven into Concrete, Steel and Masonry Elements. Revisions are proposed to allow for the evaluation of the allowable seismic loads for fasteners used to attach nonstructural components to steel base materials. This item was presented for comments on the October 2012 alternative criteria process agenda. Click here.
