New
Evaluation Reports Published
ICC-ES staff continues
to work on reports for products submitted for evaluation. Following a comprehensive
technical review process, ICC-ES issues reports each month on new
and innovative products.
Each list includes the report number and the name of the product(s) recognized
for code compliance. A complete
list of ICC-ES Evaluation Reports is available online.

2007
Evaluation
Committee Schedule
New building products and technologies are constantly being developed.
When there are no clear requirements in the code for new products and
methods, the ICC-ES Evaluation Committee approves acceptance criteria
used to evaluate new products. Upcoming 2007 meetings will be held in
Los Angeles and Birmingham as noted below:
June 5–7: The
Westin Los Angeles Airport, Los Angeles, CA.
October 10–12: The Hilton Birmingham Perimeter Park, Birmingham,
AL.
Additional

ESAC
Update

Mark
Crawford, S.E., ESAC Chairman and VP of Engineering for Simpson
Strong-Tie, reports on the progress of the advisory committee.
|
Last year, recognizing
the ever-increasing importance of the services provided to the building
industry by ICC-ES, the ICC-ES Board of Directors established the Evaluation
Service Advisory Committee (ESAC). The 20-member committee is familiar
with the activities and operations of ICC-ES, and represent a broad spectrum
of the building industry.
Two primary functions of ICC-ES are to develop Acceptance Criteria (AC)
used to evaluate products and to provide product evaluation reports. Most
people are aware of the ES Evaluation Service Reports, but have a limited
understanding of the effort it takes to develop ACs and subsequently to
provide Evaluation Service Reports on products. Due to the importance
of each function, ESAC is concurrently
reviewing and evaluating both of these primary areas of ES effort.

Technical
Staff Meeting
ICC-ES technical staff
and management hold training meetings, which include discussing ways to
improve the evaluation process. During the most recent meeting, earlier
this month, staff discussed specialization with the intent of streamlining
the internal review process. A senior staff engineer is assigned with
the authority to make decisions for specific subjects of evaluation. The
technical staff also reviewed proposed acceptance criteria that will be
on the agenda for the Evaluation Committee meeting to be held in June
in Los Angeles.

Committee Highlights
The ICC-ES Evaluation
Committee met February 6–8 in Los Angeles to consider new proposed acceptance
criteria for alternate products and for products where additional clarification
is needed in the code; and for existing criteria that need to be revised
to reflect current code, updated standards or changes to products. Read
highlights of some of the actions taken by the Evaluation Committee.
Twenty-nine separate items were considered at the three-day meeting, with

AC322
Nearing Completion
ICC-ES technical staff
worked diligently with interested parties during the last two years to
develop acceptance criteria for pre-fabricated, cold-formed, steel lateral-force-resisting
vertical assemblies (AC322). Although two major issues still need to be
resolved, the criteria is nearing completion. The ICC-ES Evaluation Committee
held the criteria for further study at the last committee meeting in February
to provide ES staff time to work with interested parties to
resolve the remaining issues.
