Ekenel Receives P.E. License
As a Senior Evaluation Specialist, Mahmut Ekenel, Ph.D. in the ICC-ES Los Angeles office, prepared for several months to take the Professional Engineer’s (P.E.) exam. Ekenel passed the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) exam in 2004 and recently completed a two-month long P.E. preparation class, which consisted of training seven hours per day on Saturdays and Sundays plus additional hours of study every other day of the week.
All of his work and dedication culminated when Ekenel took the P.E. exam and passed. He has since received a P.E. license with a discipline in Structural Engineering. ICC-ES is pleased to announce that Ekenel now holds the title of Staff Engineer.
Ekenel has proven to be a goal-oriented, life-long learner. He earned his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in his homeland of Turkey, obtained his Master of Science from Southern Illinois University, and completed his Ph.D. and post doctoral studies at the University of Missouri. All of Ekenel’s degrees are in the construction materials field.
An author of seven journal papers and eight conference papers, Ekenel is an active member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Chi-Epsilon Honorary Society, and is currently serving as an Associate Editor for the ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering. Ekenel’s learning won’t stop soon; he must earn 15 continuing education credits each year to maintain his P.E. license.
