ES Board Continues to Move Forward
The ICC-ES Board of Directors met during
the ICC Annual Conference in Orlando and discussed numerous subjects related
to ES operations. Staff noted that ICC-ES is considering new Evaluation Committee
meeting locations coordinated with ICC chapters in different regions. This
would provide the opportunity for ICC members nationwide to become more familiar
with the ICC-ES product evaluation process.
Proposed revisions to the acceptance
criteria process were discussed, with the Board offering support for the changes.
The revisions would help expedite approval of acceptance criteria that are
considered non-controversial. Staff indicated that their goal is to have the
adjustments in place by the year's end. Staff also reported its aggressive
efforts to hire more technical staff members.
The Board, upon staff recommendation, agreed to allow evaluation reports
to address compliance with earlier International Code (I-Code) editions
provided current requirements are the same or more restrictive than earlier
editions. Report holders and code officials have expressed concern that ES
use of the newest edition of the I-Codes has created a hardship for jurisdictions
using older editions. ICC-ES will limit mention of older I-Codes to two previous
editions. Board members also expressed interest in making presentations to
building departments and ICC chapters to explain how ES reports can benefit
them.
