ICC-ES and Intertek Improve Process for Developing Evaluation Reports
In an ongoing effort to meet industry needs, the ICC Evaluation Service, Inc.® (ICC-ES®) and Intertek have finalized a working agreement that will streamline the evaluation process and reduce the time it takes companies to obtain evaluation reports. ICC-ES® Evaluation Reports® provide evidence that products meet code requirements and are the preferred resource used by code officials for approving innovative building products, systems and materials.
“We are excited about this cooperative effort with Intertek, which will enhance service and expedite the evaluation process for clients. Identifying required testing front-end will facilitate the client’s ability to get their products to market,” said Mark Johnson, President of ICC-ES®.
Central to this agreement is initiation of discussions, before testing begins, on the scope of the evaluation and the required testing. Both parties have agreed to an exchange of training on respective processes and procedures used by each organization. Furthermore, each organization will have dedicated staff working together on applications submitted. Intertek will conduct testing, and prepare and submit application packages, on behalf of their clients for ICC-ES® Evaluation Reports®.
The agreement was reached following a three year effort by Intertek during which they studied the ICC-ES® process and diligently put into place the infrastructure to help clients meet the requirements of the ICC-ES® system. While this collaborative effort will provide clients with high quality and cost-effective services, it does not provide any kind of guarantee that Intertek clients will receive an Evaluation Report® from ICC-ES®. ”This cooperative agreement between ICC-ES® and Intertek is the most progressive advancement in building products certification and building code recognition in decades," stated Deg Priest, Sr. Director of Operations, Intertek. "It enables manufacturers to test their products and obtain the key certifications to market and sell those products faster than ever before."
ICC-ES® Evaluation Reports® are made available free of charge to code officials, contractors, specifiers, architects, engineers, and anyone else with an interest in the building industry and construction.
