ICC-ES and NCSEA - A New Milestone for Building Safety
ICC-ES and the National Council of Structural Engineers Association (NCSEA) have entered into a partnership whereby NCSEA will support and actively participate in the ICC-ES Evaluation Program. NCSEA is the primary organization representing practicing professional structural engineers in the United States, and promotes improved structural engineering practices to provide safer and more serviceable structures. NCSEA will be working with ICC-ES to resolve complex technical issues, and will also ensure that (1) there is feedback from the structural engineering profession regarding new and innovative building products or systems, and (2) that the building industry is provided with sound technical recommendations as regards ICC-ES acceptance criteria and evaluation reports.
The NCSEA/ICC-ES collaboration includes, but is not limited to:
- Work by NCSEA to set up a panel of experts who, when requested by ICC-ES, will review proposed ICC-ES acceptance criteria for complex structural products and systems. This panel will prepare a report for the ICC-ES technical staff and the Evaluation Committee.
- Cooperation in educating members of the building industry on the proper use and application of ICC-ES acceptance criteria and evaluation reports.
ICC-ES hopes that its partnership with NCSEA will help provide a balanced and thorough technical approach when ICC-ES is faced with the task of evaluating complex structural products and systems.
