ICC-ES to expand into plumbing, mechanical
and gas product listings

ICC Evaluation Service, Inc. (ICC-ES), the United States’ leader in evaluating building products for code compliance, is expanding into plumbing, mechanical and gas product listings. ICC-ES will develop, implement and maintain accredited listing programs under the International Codes and other appropriate codes and standards to meet the needs of those who enforce building safety codes. With water conservation efforts throughout the world, one aspect of this new program will allow ICC-ES to help the plumbing industry support low-flush volume water closets legislation, such as that signed by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on October 11. This legislation requires low-flush volume water closets to be phased into the state's economy beginning in 2010.
"Our research showed a need in code enforcement to establish a listing program for plumbing, mechanical and gas products that code officials can rely on,” said International Code Council CEO Rick Weiland. “This new business unit will fill that gap.”
The new venture will be under the direction of Bernie Soesilo, ICC-ES Director of Listing Programs, who has more than 10 years of experience, including his most recent position as Director of IAPMO Evaluation Service. Soesilo has extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations, national standards, and codes. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from California State Polytechnic University and a Master of Science degree in Engineering from California State Fullerton.
“We will seek ANSI accreditation for the program and be in compliance with ISO Guide 65,” Soesilo said. “The end product will be a listing program for code enforcement officials, architects, specifiers and others on product compliance with codes as well as standards.” More details about this new program will be posted on the ICC-ES website as they become available.
A nonprofit, public-benefit corporation, ICC-ES does technical evaluations of building products, components, methods and materials. ICC-ES evaluation reports and the new listing programs for plumbing, mechanical and gas products provide evidence that products and systems meet code requirements. ICC-ES is a subsidiary of the International Code Council.
The International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention, develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes developed by the International Code Council.
